About me

I am a professional economist and investor who has had the privilege of working not only in academia but also in the business/investment world and at the IMF and the World Bank.

During the 1990s, I worked as a consultant for the World Bank on the Middle East, in particular on Jordan and Egypt. At that time I also taught economics at the University of Aarhus. Later I joined Copenhagen Business School and became full professor in 1996.

In fall 2000, I applied for a full-time position at the IMF and was fortunate to get in as a Senior Economist. It was particularly rewarding to follow the US economy at close distance and constantly being exposed to global financial developments. My mission work was concentrated on the Baltics, which gave insights into Wild West finance. I learned a lot in that job.

Following these years, I returned to CBS where I taught global macro, stock markets and value investing. I liked teaching and being an independent economist but could not a few years later decline an offer from Maersk to become Vice President-Chief Scenario Planner for the APM Group; a job that later was turned into a Chief Economist position. I left the company in fall 2007 but continued to work for Maersk until 2014 through my membership of APMT's Executive Risk Management Committee in den Haag.

Currently, I serve as Chairman for Core German Residential II. CGR II is a Danish fund that is investing in real estate in 7 cities in Germany. The fund is managed by CPM, led by CEO Niels Lorentz Nielsen and Deputy CEO John Bødker. Thanks to a very competent management team and an almost perfect timing of the investment fund (we began in 2008), CGRII has produced impressive returns to investors. Previously, I have been in the Board of H+H, a manufacturing company producing building materials, MajInvest, a mutual fund, Nordicom, a real estate investment business, and Svenska Handelbanken Livsforsikringsselskab, a life inusurance company.

In the last 20 years, I have worked a lot on investments and boards, which I have even more time to now as I retired from CBS in fall 2019. Occasionally, I also get involved in policy discussions. Finally, tennis is high on my agenda. A sport that is ideal to practice in Spain where I am now a resident. Of course, Federer, Nadal and now also Holger Rune are my heros!
